Is Samsung developing a better Snapdragon chip for the Galaxy Z Flip 8?

Qualcomm has introduced its latest flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, which Samsung is set to incorporate into its devices. This development suggests that the new Snapdragon processor might feature in some Galaxy S26 series models. Reports indicate an unreleased version of the chip, potentially manufactured by Samsung, could debut in the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Qualcomm often provides Samsung with a slightly enhanced version of its flagship chipsets, branded as the “for Galaxy” edition, which was speculated to be part of the Galaxy S26 series. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is produced using TSMC’s 3nm process, and despite its use in the Galaxy S26, Samsung is unlikely to be involved in its manufacturing.

However, Korean media suggests another version of this chipset, crafted by Samsung using a 2nm GAA process, has been supplied to Qualcomm. Pending evaluation, it might be approved for Samsung’s next foldable phone. Samsung is striving to boost the efficiency of its 2nm process, with the upcoming Exynos 2600 also set to utilize this technology for the Galaxy S26 series.

If Samsung can demonstrate robust yields with its 2nm process, it may secure a manufacturing deal with Qualcomm for the 2nm version of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
