Will Kuwait host the first Gulf Red Crescent AI conference?

Kuwait is set to host the first-ever Gulf Red Crescent Conference on Artificial Intelligence on October 22, under the auspices of Foreign Minister Abdullah Al-Yahya. This event represents a significant step towards creating a unified Gulf vision for utilizing artificial intelligence in humanitarian efforts, reinforcing Kuwait’s position as a leader in humanitarian innovation and Gulf collaboration.

The conference, organized by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) in partnership with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) General Secretariat, will be held at the Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Cultural Center from October 22 to 23. Coinciding with Gulf Red Crescent Day on October 23, the event will gather experts and specialists from the GCC and beyond, alongside representatives from international humanitarian organizations.

The conference aims to align with modern technological advancements and leverage artificial intelligence to enhance humanitarian and development media work. Discussions will focus on AI’s role in collecting and analyzing humanitarian data, early prediction and rapid response mechanisms, challenges in data management during relief operations, and the ethical and legal considerations of AI in humanitarian contexts.

Additionally, the sessions will explore AI applications in relief efforts and showcase the experiences of Gulf national societies. The conference will also highlight initiatives using AI in health, environmental, and social awareness campaigns. A Gulf digital initiative will be launched, and a regional workshop will train media professionals in crisis coverage, field reporting, safety, media ethics, and the creation of digital humanitarian content.
