In the latest iOS 26.2 update, Apple introduces a new feature that allows iPhone users to have their screen flash for alerts. Traditionally, iPhones lack a dedicated notification LED, unlike some Android devices. However, they do offer an Accessibility feature designed for the deaf and hard of hearing, which uses the rear camera flash to signal incoming notifications. Now, with iOS 26.2, currently in beta, users can also enable the front display to flash.
This visual alert option can be beneficial even for those with normal hearing, especially in quiet environments like libraries where sound notifications might be disruptive. The update allows users to choose between having the display flash, the camera LED flash, or both, ensuring alerts are visible regardless of how the iPhone is positioned.
To activate this feature, navigate to the Settings app, select Accessibility, then Audio & Visual under the “Hearing” section. At the bottom, tap Flash for Alerts and toggle the desired options: LED Flash, Screen, or Both. Users can also customize whether the flash occurs when the device is unlocked or in silent mode. The official release of iOS 26.2 is anticipated early next month.
