How are Samsung and Intel enhancing OLED laptop battery life?

Samsung Display and Intel have collaborated to boost the battery life of laptops with OLED screens through the development of SmartPower HDR technology. This innovation reduces the power consumption of OLED panels by up to 17% during HDR content display and up to 22% in general usage, while still delivering high-quality HDR visuals. Unlike traditional HDR, which uses a fixed voltage and maximum brightness, SmartPower HDR dynamically adjusts the panel’s voltage based on screen content, allowing continuous HDR mode usage without extra battery drain. In February 2025, both companies formalized their commitment to this technology, which utilizes real-time analysis of frame brightness and the laptop’s processor to optimize voltage, enhancing both efficiency and display quality.
