Is Apple Developing a Crease-Free Foldable iPhone Display?

At CES 2026, a glimpse into the future of foldable technology was unveiled, showcasing a new crease-free OLED panel anticipated for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone. Samsung Display presented this innovative panel alongside its Galaxy Z Fold 7. Although the current Z Fold 7 reduces crease visibility, the new panel promises a seamless display from any angle, a development beneficial for Apple, as Samsung is a key supplier of its OLED technology.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo revealed that the next-generation Galaxy Z Fold 8 will incorporate the same laser-drilled metal display plate as Apple’s foldable iPhone, supplied by Fine M-Tec. This component disperses bending stress, creating a crease-free effect. Despite similarities, Apple’s unique design approach will differentiate its display from Samsung’s.

The rumored dimensions of Apple’s foldable iPhone suggest a squatter, wider design compared to Samsung’s taller displays, with a 4:3 aspect ratio when open. While Samsung removed the test booth early at CES, the advancements in crease-free technology have set a new standard for foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected this summer, with Apple’s foldable iPhone slated for mass production and a mid-September release.

Samsung later clarified that the showcased panel was an R&D concept, with no confirmation of its application in future products, including the Galaxy Z Fold 8. The booth’s removal coincided with media tours, having been displayed to numerous groups throughout the event.
