Is Pioneer introducing the first aftermarket CarPlay unit with Spatial Audio?

Pioneer has unveiled a groundbreaking in-dash receiver that brings Dolby Atmos audio playback to Apple CarPlay in the aftermarket sector. Previously, Dolby Atmos in vehicles via Apple CarPlay was limited to high-end models equipped with specific audio hardware. This new SPHERA receiver allows a wider range of drivers to experience Atmos-capable CarPlay through aftermarket installation. It utilizes the vehicle’s existing speakers, employing a four-channel configuration to deliver spatial audio without the need for additional specialized equipment.

The receiver features Pure Autotuning technology, which compensates for the acoustic differences in various vehicle interiors by adjusting time alignment, frequency response, and channel levels to create an optimal listening experience. Equipped with a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen, the system supports wireless CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth, and offers a split-screen mode for simultaneous navigation and audio control access.

Designed for universal installation, the SPHERA receiver can be easily integrated into a wide range of vehicles with minimal adjustments. Pioneer announced that it will be available in the spring, starting at a price of $1,300.
