Qualcomm is in discussions with Samsung to manufacture its Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset using Samsung’s advanced 2nm fabrication process. This move marks a shift from the current production of the chipset on TSMC’s 3nm process. The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is expected to power Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 series. Samsung plans to produce these chips at its S3 plant in Hwaseong, dedicating 10% of its production capacity to this project. The facility is capable of producing 20,000 12-inch wafers monthly, with 2,000 earmarked for Qualcomm. Each 2nm wafer is priced at $20,000, potentially generating significant revenue for Samsung. This deal could account for about 4% of Samsung Foundry’s annual revenue, highlighting the substantial financial impact of this collaboration.
