On New Year’s Eve in Rajasthan, a significant security threat emerged when police in Tonk arrested two individuals and confiscated a substantial amount of explosives from their vehicle. Acting on precise intelligence, the District Special Team stopped a car in the Baroni area and discovered nearly 150 kilograms of ammonium nitrate concealed in sacks of urea fertilizer.
The suspects, Surendra Patwa and Surendra Mochi from Bundi district, were allegedly transporting the explosives from Bundi to Tonk for further distribution. In addition to the ammonium nitrate, authorities found around 200 cartridges and six bundles of safety fuse wire totaling approximately 1,100 meters. The vehicle used for the transportation was also seized.
Police officials reported that the operation was swiftly executed following credible information. Investigations are underway to trace the origin of the explosives, their intended use, and any potential connections to illegal activities. The suspects are being interrogated to ascertain if the materials were intended for unlawful purposes, such as unauthorized mining.
Ammonium nitrate, while commonly utilized as a fertilizer, has been associated with high-grade explosives in the past. The seizure has heightened concerns, especially after its involvement in a recent explosion near Delhiās Red Fort, which resulted in several casualties. Authorities have assured that the investigation is ongoing, with all possible leads being explored to ensure public safety.
