Upstage has announced the launch of its new AI model, Solar-Open-100B, at an event hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT in Seoul. The model, boasting 100 billion parameters, is designed to excel in understanding the nuances of the Korean language and culture. CEO Sunghoon Kim emphasized the model’s ability to comprehend context, emotion, and formality in the Korean language, setting it apart from global counterparts. During the event, Kim demonstrated the model’s capabilities, including chatbot interactions and AI-driven research, in real time. Upstage, the only startup among five elite teams at the event, plans to expand the model to 200 billion parameters next year and eventually to 300 billion, adding support for English and Japanese. The company aims to position itself as a leading AI powerhouse, competing with giants like Google and OpenAI.
