How Was Trust Wallet’s Chrome Extension Hacked and Fixed?

A recent security breach has impacted Trust Wallet’s desktop users, leading to a loss of $6–$7 million in cryptocurrencies including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. The vulnerability was found in version 2.68 of the Chrome browser extension, allowing hackers to inject malicious code and drain funds. Only desktop users with this specific version were affected, while mobile app users remain safe. Trust Wallet has promptly released version 2.69 to patch the issue, urging users to update immediately via the official Chrome Webstore. Affected users will be fully reimbursed through Binance’s Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU). This incident underscores the necessity for users to prioritize security measures, such as regular updates and the use of hardware wallets, to protect their assets. Despite occasional breaches, Trust Wallet continues to focus on user security, with swift action and compensation efforts aiming to restore trust in the platform.
