Can Xiaomi’s 17 Ultra, with Leica’s backing, surpass the iPhone Pro Max in mobile photography?

Xiaomi has introduced the 17 Ultra, its latest high-end smartphone, which boasts enhanced night photography and imaging capabilities, thanks to a strengthened collaboration with German camera manufacturer Leica. According to Xiaomi president Lu Weibing, this partnership aims to revolutionize mobile photography by integrating advanced optical technology. In a comparison of low-light photos taken in Hong Kong, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra reportedly produced sharper images than Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max. Siegmund Dukek, managing director of Leica Camera Greater China, emphasized that this collaboration brings professional-level photography to more users. Despite challenges from local competitors like Huawei and Honor, Xiaomi and Leica are confident in their ability to attract iPhone enthusiasts in China. Additionally, Xiaomi launched a special edition of the 17 Ultra, featuring Leica’s iconic logo and a design inspired by the German company’s cameras.
