How is Sophgo contributing to China’s AI self-reliance efforts?

Chinese chipmaker Sophgo has successfully adapted its SC11 FP300 compute card to enhance the capabilities of DeepSeek’s AI reasoning model, highlighting a significant step towards China’s ambition for self-reliance in artificial intelligence infrastructure. This development comes amid increasing restrictions on US chip exports, pushing local companies to innovate independently. The compute card, which integrates essential computing components, has passed rigorous testing by the China Telecommunication Technology Labs, confirming its stable performance in executing DeepSeek’s R1 model tasks. This achievement aligns with Beijing’s strategy to support domestic AI systems with homegrown technology. Sophgo’s FP300 card, launched last year, boasts 256 gigabytes of high-bandwidth memory and a memory bandwidth of up to 1.1 terabytes per second, facilitating faster data transfer crucial for AI model training and execution.
