Will the iPhone 18’s Advanced Camera Sensor Be Made in Texas?

Samsung is set to supply Apple with advanced image sensors for the iPhone, manufactured in Austin, Texas. The sensors will be produced at Samsung’s existing Austin facility, where the company plans to install production equipment soon and has started hiring mechanical and electrical technicians, engineers, and managers for the setup. These image sensors will feature a three-stack design, allowing for higher pixel density, improved low-light performance, faster readout speeds, reduced power consumption, and enhanced dynamic range. This innovative manufacturing process has not been used commercially before. Samsung has announced a $19 billion investment in its Austin facility, with the new production line expected to start operating as early as March. The sensors are intended for the iPhone 18, anticipated to launch in the first half of 2027, marking the first time Apple will source image sensors from a supplier other than Sony, which currently produces them in Japan.
