What is replacing the Commodore and Falcon cop cars?

In Western Australia, the police force has chosen an unconventional successor to the locally built Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons. While other states have opted for models like the Kia Stinger and BMW 5 Series, Western Australia has introduced the Volkswagen Touareg R, a plug-in hybrid SUV. This vehicle boasts a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine paired with an electric motor, delivering up to 340kW and 700Nm. This power surpasses that of previous V8-powered patrol cars. The Touareg R accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in just 5.1 seconds and can cover up to 51km on electric power alone. Once the battery is depleted, the power output remains a solid 250kW and 450Nm. The SUV, weighing around 2.4 tonnes, can be charged at a rate of up to 7.5kW. The starting price for private buyers is $129,990, though it’s uncertain if the police received a discount for their fleet. This move follows Queensland Police’s earlier adoption of MG HS Plus EV SUVs in 2023.
