Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone, known as the “iPhone Ultra,” is anticipated to miss several key features found in the iPhone 18 Pro models, despite its hefty $2,000 price tag. Recent dummy models suggest the absence of MagSafe and the Action Button. These models, used by accessory manufacturers for precision, indicate a new button placement, with volume controls moved to the top edge, similar to the iPad mini, due to internal design changes. Notably, the Action Button, a staple since the iPhone 15 Pro, is missing, hinting at its exclusion.
The foldable model is also expected to lack the MagSafe system, possibly due to its ultra-thin design, making it the thinnest iPhone yet at 4.5mm. This design might also forego the TrueDepth camera array necessary for Face ID, reverting to Touch ID for authentication – a feature last seen in flagship models with the iPhone 7.
The iPhone Ultra is predicted to feature only two rear cameras, wide and ultra-wide, similar to the iPhone 17, omitting the telephoto lens. It will likely support only eSIM, with no physical SIM card slot. These omissions could be controversial given the device’s high price compared to the iPhone 17 Pro, which starts at $1,099 and includes these features. The iPhone Ultra is set to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in the fall, with its design closely resembling the iPhone Air, known for similar feature sacrifices. The absence of stereo speakers is not confirmed but remains a possibility due to the design compromises.
