Apple is reportedly gearing up to launch new AirPods, dubbed “AirPods Ultra,” which will feature integrated cameras designed to enhance Siri’s capabilities. These cameras are not typical photo or video cameras but are infrared cameras similar to those used in the Face ID system on iPhones. They aim to provide Siri with detailed data about the user’s surroundings, improving the Visual Intelligence feature on newer iPhone models.
The “AirPods Ultra” are expected to be priced above the current AirPods Pro 3, suggesting a premium positioning in Apple’s lineup. Although there were initial speculations about these AirPods supporting in-air gesture control, this feature is not anticipated in the final product.
Apple’s strategy seems to include expanding its “Ultra” branding across various devices, with plans for an “iPhone Ultra” and “MacBook Ultra” also in the works. The release of the “AirPods Ultra” could coincide with the unveiling of the “iPhone Ultra,” potentially happening in September. Meanwhile, the “MacBook Ultra” is expected to debut by early 2027, featuring innovative designs such as an OLED display and touch-screen capabilities.
