Has GalaxEye launched the first OptoSAR satellite into orbit?

The Bengaluru-based space startup, GalaxEye, has successfully launched Mission Drishti, the world’s first OptoSAR satellite, marking a milestone in Earth observation technology and showcasing India’s growing prowess in the global space sector. Weighing 190 kilograms, this satellite is the largest privately developed Earth observation satellite in India, uniquely integrating Electro-Optical and Synthetic Aperture Radar sensors for all-weather, day-and-night imaging. This innovation overcomes traditional limitations and ensures reliable data acquisition across various conditions. Mission Drishti serves dual purposes, aiding in defense, agriculture, disaster management, maritime monitoring, and infrastructure planning. The mission represents over five years of dedicated research and development, highlighting India’s shift towards innovation-led advancements in space technology. Following its deployment, the satellite is set to deliver initial imagery to customers soon, attracting interest from international government and commercial stakeholders. GalaxEye has also partnered with NewSpace India Limited to distribute its satellite imagery globally, enhancing access to advanced data for various applications. This launch emphasizes the rapid progress of India’s private space sector, contributing significantly to the global space economy. The satellite complements India’s broader Earth observation initiatives and positions the country as a credible provider of advanced geospatial intelligence. GalaxEye intends to expand its satellite constellation over the next five years, bolstering India’s Earth observation infrastructure and meeting the rising global demand for reliable satellite data.
