What’s New in iOS 26.5?

Apple has officially launched iOS 26.5 after several months of beta testing. Although the anticipated Siri updates are postponed to iOS 27, the new version introduces several notable features. Among the most significant updates is the implementation of end-to-end encryption for RCS messages between iPhone and Android devices, enhancing security similarly to iMessages. This feature requires both sender and receiver to use carriers that support the latest RCS version and is enabled by default, with an option to toggle it in the settings.

Additionally, iOS 26.5 brings a vibrant Pride Luminance wallpaper with customizable color options. The Maps app now features Suggested Places, offering recommendations based on recent searches and local trends, and prepares for future ad integration.

In compliance with the EU’s Digital Markets Act, Apple has expanded support for third-party wearables, allowing features like proximity pairing and interactive notifications, previously exclusive to Apple devices, to be accessible on third-party earbuds and smartwatches. These updates are currently limited to EU users.

The update also facilitates message attachment transfers when switching from iPhone to Android, introduces new awards in Apple Books, and adds an Inuktitut keyboard layout. Importantly, iOS 26.5 addresses over 50 security vulnerabilities, underscoring the importance of updating to ensure device protection.
