Apple’s upcoming fourth-generation AirPods Pro are anticipated to feature built-in cameras, allowing them to observe the world around you. These new earbuds are reportedly in advanced testing stages, with a design that includes a tiny infrared camera on each earbud’s slightly extended stem. This visual capability is expected to integrate with an enhanced version of Siri, providing users with immediate information about their surroundings. A small LED will indicate when the AirPods are actively processing visual data.
While the cameras won’t capture photos or videos, they will enable users to look at objects and receive instant information via Siri, similar to using an iPhone’s Visual Intelligence mode. Additionally, these cameras are designed to enhance walking directions and offer contextual reminders through integration with Apple Maps.
The new AirPods are set to work with a more intelligent Siri, expected to launch with iOS 27 in September. Although it’s unclear how these AirPods will be positioned within Apple’s product lineup, speculation suggests they might be named AirPods Ultra or AirPods Pro 3 With Cameras. More details are expected to emerge in the fall.
