Finger Lakes Community College is set to host a comprehensive conference on artificial intelligence on June 10, in collaboration with the Ontario County Chamber of Commerce. The event aims to unite business leaders, educators, and community members to discuss the transformative impact of AI on the workplace.
The “FLX AI Hub 2nd Annual Community Convening: AI and the Future of Work” will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the college’s main campus. It will feature interactive workshops, panel discussions, and demonstrations, catering to both novices and seasoned AI users.
The conference will delve into the practical applications of AI while also addressing broader issues such as workforce transformation, ethics, and sustainability. Organizers emphasize the event’s goal to assist regional employers and employees in integrating AI into daily operations, while also tackling concerns about its long-term implications.
The agenda includes sessions on advanced prompting, chatbot creation, and AI-generated content. Dave Ghidiu, an associate professor of computing sciences, will lead discussions on advanced prompting and “vibe coding,” which allows the generation of computer code through AI prompts without prior programming knowledge.
Jen O’Brien, director for research and innovation at the American Marketing Association, will be the keynote speaker, discussing AI’s impact on marketing and its wider industry implications. Other speakers include Katie Pullen, who will explore creative AI applications for small businesses.
Lunchtime panel discussions will highlight AI’s influence on sectors like healthcare and agriculture. Additional sessions will cover ethical disclosure standards and the environmental impact of AI, focusing on energy and water consumption in data centers.
The conference is part of the FLX AI Hub, an initiative launched by the college to enhance understanding and application of AI tools in the workplace.
