Iranian hackers have reportedly launched a cyberattack on the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority in March, resulting in the theft of 700 gigabytes of sensitive data, such as emails and backups. The attack has been linked to a lesser-known pro-Iran group called Ababil of Minab, which is believed to have connections to Tehran. While the breach did not disrupt the transit system’s operations, it did impact service displays and other functionalities. Investigations are being conducted by authorities, including the FBI and local cyber specialists. Ababil has also claimed responsibility for attacks on other entities, including South Florida’s Tri-Rail and a vehicle tracking company. Cybersecurity experts warn of the ongoing threat from Iranian hackers amid rising tensions following the U.S. and Israel’s declaration of war against Iran.
