How is a space startup using lasers for satellite communication?

Observable Space has successfully secured $90 million in its initial funding round, aiming to leverage laser technology for efficient data transfer between satellites and Earth, and potentially for orbiting data centers. The funding was spearheaded by Lux Capital, with significant contributions from Upfront Ventures, Detroit Venture Partners, Island Green Capital, and RTX Ventures, among others. In addition, the company has secured a $94 million contract with the US Space Force to enhance its network of ground-based optical telescopes, which are essential for satellite tracking initiatives by the Pentagon, reflecting a broader international effort to strengthen space capabilities.
