How did the Carnival data breach affect nearly 6 million customers?

Carnival Corporation is addressing the aftermath of a significant data breach that exposed the personal information of millions of passengers. Discovered on April 14, the breach involved unauthorized access to customer data, including names, addresses, and government-issued ID numbers, through a social engineering attack. The company quickly acted to block the intrusion, engaged third-party security experts, and launched an investigation. Although the exact number of affected individuals has not been publicly disclosed, a filing in Maine suggests nearly 6 million people were impacted. Carnival is notifying those affected and offering two years of free credit monitoring with TransUnion. The company has enhanced its security measures and set up a dedicated call center to assist customers with inquiries related to the breach.
