Most districts prefer setting their own AI guidelines rather than adhering to state or federal mandates, as the fast-paced nature of AI requires flexibility. Training staff on generative AI tools is the most common initiative, but less than half focus on using AI for teaching and learning. Cybersecurity is a major concern, with nearly all respondents worried about AI-related cyber attacks. Despite awareness, many schools lack the staffing and budget to tackle these challenges effectively. Additionally, the vetting of educational technology remains an issue, as schools often rely on vendors’ data without the capacity to independently verify safety and effectiveness. While some progress has been made, gaps remain in ensuring inclusivity and safety in edtech tools. Schools are encouraged to prioritize procurement and establish robust vetting processes to address these concerns.
