Is Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra sticking with old camera tech?

The upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra from Samsung is rumored to reuse the same 5x telephoto camera sensor for the fourth consecutive year. Despite this, there may be a silver lining as Samsung is reportedly focusing on enhancing the camera’s optics. The main camera is expected to feature a wider aperture, and the camera bump might be significantly thicker than that of the S25 Ultra, potentially leading to improved photo quality. While competitors like Apple have introduced substantial camera upgrades with their latest iPhone 17 lineup, Samsung’s decision to retain the same sensor could still yield positive results if the optics advancements deliver as promised. Additionally, there are concerns about a possible downgrade of the 3x telephoto camera to a 10 MP sensor. Despite these challenges, Samsung aims to maintain its position in the market by focusing on refining other aspects of the camera technology.
