Apple has introduced a notable update in iOS 27, allowing users to remove the Now Playing widget from the iPhone’s Lock Screen with a simple swipe. Previously, users had no option to dismiss the Now Playing interface. In the latest developer build of iOS 27, swiping left on the playback controls reveals a Clear button, enabling the removal of the widget. This action also clears the smaller Now Playing widget from the Dynamic Island. However, the method to immediately restore the widget remains unclear. The current workaround involves pausing the playback, waiting, and then resuming it, though this may vary depending on the app in use. Transitioning between different types of media, such as from a podcast to a video, also reinstates the Lock Screen widget. This minor yet impactful change will be appreciated by users who prefer a clutter-free Lock Screen. Apple plans to release iOS 27 in public beta next month, with a full release anticipated in the fall.
