Radical Numerics, a pioneering AI research lab, has launched with an impressive $50 million in seed funding aimed at advancing general biological intelligence. The funding round was led by Emergence Capital, with contributions from notable investors like Obvious Ventures and Triatomic Capital. The lab, founded by experts in generative genomics, aims to transform biological design for human health and enhance biodefense systems. The founders, including Eric Nguyen and Michael Poli, have previously developed Evo, an AI model that can both read and write DNA at scale. This groundbreaking model has facilitated the design of novel CRISPR systems and the creation of the first AI-designed genome. With this new funding, Radical Numerics plans to scale its models and attract top AI research talent. The company is also introducing Omnii, a next-generation genomic language model that excels in identifying causal regulatory variants and detecting AI-generated pathogens. This innovative approach promises to open new avenues in cancer diagnostics, drug target identification, and biosecurity.
