Could Samsung Manufacture Chips for AMD, Google, and Nvidia?

Samsung is emerging as a potential partner for several tech giants, including AMD, Google, and Nvidia, as they seek to navigate the current constraints in global chip manufacturing. The South Korean company, one of the few capable of producing semiconductor chips on advanced nodes of 5nm and below, is being considered for future chip production by these industry leaders.

BYD, the largest electric vehicle manufacturer globally, is reportedly in discussions with Samsung for the production of autonomous driving chips. Google is also exploring collaboration with Samsung Foundry for its next-generation Axion processors, anticipated to debut in 2028, and for components of its Tensor Processing Units used in AI servers.

Nvidia-backed Groq is already utilizing Samsung Foundry for its Language Processing Units and may continue this partnership for future chips. Despite TSMC’s dominance in advanced semiconductor manufacturing, Samsung is gaining attention as companies like Google, Qualcomm, and Tesla adopt dual-sourcing strategies to mitigate capacity constraints. This approach, while increasing R&D costs and engineering challenges, is feasible for financially robust companies.
