Epic Games recently showcased its future plans for the Unreal Engine platform during the State of Unreal event. Among the exciting announcements, the company’s commitment to using generative AI for creating Fortnite characters, outfits, and environments has sparked controversy. Fans have expressed concerns, requesting clear labeling to distinguish between human-made and AI-generated skins.
Indie developer Poncle, known for Vampire Survivors, has also reacted to the news. They are reconsidering their collaboration with Epic Games to introduce Vampire Survivors cosmetics into Fortnite. Poncle released a statement indicating that they are currently “reviewing” the partnership in light of Epic’s AI strategy.
This situation raises questions about whether other developers might follow Poncle’s lead and reevaluate their partnerships with Epic Games due to the company’s increased focus on generative AI.
