Was the RAF Akrotiri security alert just a test?

RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus conducted a routine security test on Wednesday morning, activating operation wideawake, according to a British bases spokeswoman. Personnel were instructed to inspect their areas for suspicious items and report any findings, while movement around the base was restricted. Operation wideawake is typically used when there is a potential terrorist threat, and was last activated in response to a fuel theft at the Larkhill Royal Artillery barracks in England. The drill comes as British bases in Cyprus face increased scrutiny, following an Iranian-made drone strike in March and their use in Middle East operations. Concerns have also been raised about potential Russian espionage activities near the Akrotiri base.
