Ridgewood High School’s AI for Youth students are set to represent the United States at the ISTE+ASCD conference, thanks to an invitation from Intel. These students will participate in an international panel to demonstrate how they utilize artificial intelligence to address literacy challenges. The project, led by teacher Lester McCurdy, has garnered both national and global attention, showcasing the potential of rural students to drive impactful innovation on a global scale.
The session, titled “Student Changemakers Leading the Way with AI Passion Projects to Global Recognition,” will be held on June 29 at 9 a.m. and is led by Snow White, Intel’s director of education strategy. The event will feature students using AI to tackle real-world issues, aiming to inspire educators worldwide with practical ideas for fostering student-driven innovation.
Ridgewood Superintendent Mike Masloski expressed pride in the students’ achievements, highlighting their dedication to enhancing reading opportunities for all students. The Ridgewood AI Youth Program exemplifies how rural students can emerge as global leaders through innovation, collaboration, and service. The participation of these students in this prestigious educational technology conference underscores Ridgewood’s commitment to preparing students for leadership and positive impact through emerging technologies.
Masloski also praised Lester McCurdy for his dedication to mentoring students and expanding the AI Youth Program, even during the summer months. McCurdy’s efforts have been pivotal in providing scholarship opportunities for these exceptional young women.
