Samsung is enhancing its camera supply chain for its upcoming foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra. By adding more camera module suppliers, the company aims to reduce costs and ensure a more reliable supply chain.
The Galaxy Z Flip 8 will come equipped with a 50MP main camera, a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP front camera, mirroring its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The front camera modules will be sourced from Camsys and MCNEX, while the rear camera modules and lenses will be provided by Powerlogics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and Sunny Optical.
The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is set to feature two 10MP front cameras, a 50MP primary rear camera with optical image stabilization, and a 50MP ultrawide camera. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is expected to boast a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide lens, a 10MP telephoto camera, and two 10MP front cameras. Camera modules for both Galaxy Z Fold 8 models may be supplied by Camsys, MCNEX, Namuga, and Powerlogics.
As Apple prepares to introduce its first foldable smartphone, potentially named the iPhone Ultra, Samsung is strategically fortifying its component supply chain. This move comes at a crucial time, as prices for memory chips like DRAM and NAND flash have surged in recent years. Samsung’s diverse range of foldable phones, from the Galaxy Z Flip 8 FE to the high-end Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, aims to cater to various price points and consumer preferences.
