Will the Galaxy S27 series feature a 16MP front camera?

Samsung is reportedly planning significant changes to the camera setup of its upcoming Galaxy S27 flagship series. The Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to be equipped with a 16MP front-facing camera, an upgrade from the 12MP sensor used in recent models. It remains uncertain if the base Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ will receive the same enhancement, as they may continue with the 12MP sensor introduced with the Galaxy S23 series in 2023.

There is speculation that Samsung might consider a square front camera sensor similar to the 18MP front camera found in Apple’s iPhone 17 series. A square sensor offers the advantage of cropping portrait and landscape images from a single capture, allowing for versatile shooting regardless of phone orientation. A 16MP square sensor could technically allow for 12MP (4:3) images to be cropped in either orientation.

In addition to the front camera upgrade, the Galaxy S27 lineup may also see other enhancements. Reports suggest the Galaxy S27 Pro will feature a new 50MP 3.5x telephoto camera, while the Galaxy S27 Ultra might eliminate its dedicated 3x telephoto camera.
