Is Shanghai leading the race in quantum computing innovation?

Shanghai has launched a new industrial hub dedicated to quantum computing, aiming to accelerate the development of this emerging technology. The Shanghai Quantum Computing Future Industry Incubation Zone, located in the Xuhui district, has already attracted 26 companies focused on quantum computing. The initiative provides resources, talent, and financial support to transition from laboratory research to a comprehensive industrial ecosystem. Companies can receive up to 100 million yuan for foundational research and 20 million yuan for developing initial products, alongside subsidies to reduce computing costs. Shanghai plans to enhance its quantum computing capabilities by integrating research institutions, startups, and applications across various sectors such as biomedical research and financial technology. The city anticipates that combining artificial intelligence with quantum technologies will speed up technological advancements, real-world testing, and the commercialization of research. Xuhui district, already home to leading AI labs, is positioned as a key area for fostering this integration.
