Professor Bing Dong, a prominent figure in mechanical and aerospace engineering, is set to lead a workshop on artificial intelligence at the renowned NeurIPS conference. This event, established in 1987, is a leading annual gathering for machine learning and AI research. Dong’s workshop, titled “UrbanAI: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities,” will delve into AI-driven solutions for optimizing urban infrastructure, including transportation, traffic management, power systems, and building HVAC. The initiative aims to enhance city efficiency and minimize carbon emissions, bringing together experts from various fields to tackle urban sustainability challenges. Collaborating with esteemed colleagues from Harvard, Columbia, the University of Washington, and Mila, Dong emphasizes the significance of understanding AI’s role in energy and environmental issues. Zixin Jiang, a Ph.D. candidate under Dong’s mentorship, will also contribute as a panel speaker on AI applications for urban settings.
