Will Bing Dong Lead AI Workshop at Prestigious NeurIPS Conference?

Professor Bing Dong, a prominent figure in mechanical and aerospace engineering, is set to lead a workshop on artificial intelligence at the renowned NeurIPS conference. This event, established in 1987, is a leading annual gathering for machine learning and AI research. Dong’s workshop, titled “UrbanAI: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Smart Cities,” will delve into AI-driven solutions for optimizing urban infrastructure, including transportation, traffic management, power systems, and building HVAC. The initiative aims to enhance city efficiency and minimize carbon emissions, bringing together experts from various fields to tackle urban sustainability challenges. Collaborating with esteemed colleagues from Harvard, Columbia, the University of Washington, and Mila, Dong emphasizes the significance of understanding AI’s role in energy and environmental issues. Zixin Jiang, a Ph.D. candidate under Dong’s mentorship, will also contribute as a panel speaker on AI applications for urban settings. Dong holds the position of Traugott Professor at the College of Engineering and Computer Science and serves as the Associate Director of Grid-Interactive Buildings at the Syracuse Center of Excellence. His research group, the BEST Lab, focuses on advanced building controls and energy system modeling. The NeurIPS conference, known for its competitive nature with a workshop acceptance rate below 20%, will be held in December 2025 in San Diego, California.
