Why do Samsung fans envy the iPhone Pro models?

As a long-time Samsung and Android enthusiast, I rarely find myself longing for an iPhone. Samsung’s flagship smartphones usually meet my needs, and the areas where Apple excels aren’t typically my priorities. However, when it comes to cameras, I can’t help but envy the iPhone Pro models.

Samsung’s Galaxy S series requires opting for the Ultra model to access the best telephoto camera features. While the base and Plus models remain limited to a 3x zoom, the Ultra offers a 5x optical zoom and previously even featured a 10x telephoto lens. Unfortunately, the Ultra also means a larger, costlier phone, complete with an S Pen that not everyone desires.

In contrast, Apple provides both the iPhone Pro and Pro Max with identical camera systems, ensuring that choosing a smaller model doesn’t mean sacrificing camera quality. The iPhone 17 Pro, for instance, offers a compact design with the same photographic capabilities as the Pro Max.

Samsung’s foldable phones, like the Galaxy Z Fold series, also fall short in telephoto capabilities, maintaining a 3x zoom across models. With foldables being both expensive and delicate, they don’t offer a viable alternative for those seeking superior camera systems in the Galaxy S lineup.

However, hope is on the horizon. Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to bridge the gap between the Plus and Ultra models, offering enhanced camera features. This new model might not rival the Ultra or Apple’s Pro models entirely, but it promises a significant improvement for those who prefer a smaller device without compromising on camera quality.
