The World AI Conference 2026 will take place in Shanghai from July 17–20, bringing together business leaders, technology companies and researchers to discuss AI innovation and governance. Under the theme “AI Partnership for a Brighter Future,” the conference will emphasize international cooperation, safety and equitable access to AI technologies. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that President Xi Jinping will open the summit and deliver the inaugural address.

Over four days, the event will host more than 140 forums and is expected to attract roughly 1,400 international participants. An exhibition spanning over 100,000 square meters will feature more than 1,100 companies and showcase over 3,000 exhibits, including more than 300 world-first product launches. Organizers say demonstrations will cover large language models, AI agents, industrial applications and open-source ecosystems, positioning the conference as a major platform for unveiling the latest technological advances.
Global governance and regulatory debates
AI governance sits at the center of the agenda: representatives from dozens of countries and international organizations will convene to debate regulatory frameworks, safety standards, cross-border data flows and mechanisms to ensure fair access to AI benefits. Expect high-level discussions on model evaluation, risk management, standards-setting, export controls and multilateral cooperation aimed at mitigating systemic risks while enabling innovation.
