What humanoid robots and dexterous robotic hands were showcased at World AI Conference 2026?

World AI Conference 2026 in Shanghai put a wide range of consumer and industrial robots on display, culminating in demonstrations of AI-driven humanoids and robotic hands. Framed as a showcase blending connected devices, culture and live performances, the event ran over a long weekend and featured demos ranging from ping-pong matches to traditional tea ceremony performances.

What the exhibition showed
Exhibition booths highlighted robots designed for diverse contexts: leisure, reception, industrial production and logistics. Standout attractions included machines playing table tennis, making balloon animals and even staging football matches, which drew large crowds. There were also demonstrations of object sorting and fine manipulation carried out by AI-controlled robotic hands.

Humanoids in volume and companion robots
A recurring theme at World AI Conference 2026 was the scaling up of humanoid production: national annual output is expected to exceed 100,000 units this year. Several humanoid models were on display, from a humanlike companion called “Xia Lan” to more utilitarian units intended for reception or artistic demonstrations. Visitors photographed, interacted with and tested the conversational and gestural capabilities of these machines.

Robotic hands and fine manipulation
AI-assisted robotic hands were among the technical highlights. These systems were presented as solutions for delicate industrial operations and service scenarios that normally require human dexterity. Presentations combined live trials with applied scenarios — object sorting, assembly and the manufacture of playful items — to demonstrate precision and adaptability.

AI in culture and entertainment
Beyond functional demos, the conference emphasized “AI + culture and entertainment”: robots performing tea-art demonstrations, robotic artists and “volunteer” robots designed for reception and public information. These staged interactions aimed to show how AI can be integrated into experiential and recreational settings while testing public perception and acceptance.

Notable hardware players
On the hardware side, the Unitree GD-01 quadruped was exhibited alongside humanoids and small social robots. The show’s lineup ranged from compact, interactive devices to larger robots built for logistics or public demonstrations.

Images and atmosphere
Photographs taken on July 17–18 captured attentive—and often delighted—visitors: selfies with humanoids, children engaging with small robots and staged performances around high‑tech objects. The overall impression was of a burgeoning ecosystem and a wealth of potential applications for robotics and AI.
