Samsung Display has started mass production of the industry’s first OLED laptop panel certified VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400. The tandem panel can reach 1,400 nits peak brightness in a 10% window and, Samsung says, up to 1,600 nits in a smaller measurement window.
A certification that brings HDR to OLED
VESA’s new DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification recognizes OLED panels that combine very high peak brightness with the perfect blacks inherent to OLED technology. Samsung’s panel earned the certification by delivering up to 1,400 nits peak brightness over an area equal to 10% of the screen.
Tandem OLED: two emissive layers for higher brightness and longer life
The panel is a “tandem” (dual-stack) OLED, featuring two organic emissive layers and new materials—an approach Samsung credits for the higher luminance. Compared with single-stack OLEDs, the tandem architecture delivers greater brightness at equivalent power and extends panel lifetime. At the same brightness level, the tandem panel can also consume less power, potentially improving battery life in laptops.
First devices and timing
The first laptop to use this panel is the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition, which received VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification on July 8, 2026. Other OEMs including ASUS, Dell and MSI are developing laptops with the same panel and are expected to announce them in the second half of 2026. Samsung Display also indicated the panel could appear in future Galaxy Book models, though no timeline was given.
Public demo
Samsung Display will exhibit the panel at its booth during K‑Display 2026 at COEX in Seoul from July 22–24, 2026, giving the public and industry professionals a first look at the combination of high peak brightness and deep OLED blacks.
