BZERO raises €2.5M to scale commercialization of home-compostable film
BZERO has closed an oversubscribed seed round totaling €2.5 million to accelerate commercialization of its home-compostable film, which the company says can be produced as thin as 7 µm while maintaining the same mechanical strength as conventional plastic.
The round—initially announced at €1.5 million—was upsized and attracted capital from Ship2B Ventures, CTL Investments, Torribas, Impact Shakers Ventures and Viscofan. BZERO manufactures the film using a proprietary thermoplastic starch (TPS) technology and is positioning it as a cost-competitive replacement for low-density polyethylene (LDPE) across common applications such as bags, labels, food nets and flexible packaging.
BZERO says the new funding will primarily be used to expand industrial production capacity beyond its current output, which it estimates at 300 tonnes per year.
