Apple’s macOS 27 beta hides an interactive new interface for selecting Siri’s voice — a nearly black “voice pad” that maps up to 13 voice slots into a responsive, spatial audio playground. The UI, discovered in the latest developer beta, replaces the usual System Settings selector with a canvas where pointer movement alters which voice feels close or distant.

The hidden panel presents a loose grid of 13 dots, each representing a potential Siri voice. Moving the pointer across the pad animates colors and spawns additional dots while the audible voice characteristics shift. Voices nearer the cursor become clearer and more present; voices farther away sound ambient. A spatial mixer reportedly tracks pointer distance, angle and velocity and modifies volume, reverb, occlusion and filtering across voice and background audio layers as the cursor moves.
How the voice pad works in practice
Pressing and holding the pointer “brings the interface to life,” with each dot emerging like a star in a constellation. The beta does not yet include the full set of voice models, so the system currently falls back to the two custom voices already available. A file inside the beta, however, lists 13 expected American English voices by gender, age and character — from a soft-spoken young female to a deep adult male and multiple older-sounding voices — indicating Apple may be preparing support for a broader voice palette.
The visual and auditory feedback is tied together via spatial audio cues: as the pointer approaches a voice slot it appears—and sounds—more present; moving away makes it distant.
