iOS 27 brings a range of iCloud-centered enhancements, from expanded HomeKit camera capabilities to faster sharing and sync across Photos, Siri, and other apps. Some features rely directly on iCloud+ storage tiers, while others leverage Apple Intelligence and require specific hardware and subscription levels.
HomeKit cameras get “smarter” with iCloud+
HomeKit Secure Video management is getting smarter: the Home app can now send text summaries in notifications (for example, “Person detected” or “Animal detected”), surface those descriptions in the video playback timeline, and let you search for specific events. Events captured by multiple cameras (for instance, the same person moving between rooms) are paired so you get a unified view of activity around the house.
These Apple Intelligence features in the Home app require an iCloud+ subscription with at least 2 TB of storage — the 2 TB tier is also required to support an unlimited number of HomeKit Secure Video cameras — and a home hub (HomePod, HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K). An iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence (iPhone 15 Pro or later) is also required to access them. Separately, iOS 27 adds 4K recording support for Secure Video cameras; that capability does not use Apple Intelligence.
iCloud and Apple Intelligence: quotas and limits
Apple says certain Apple Intelligence features, such as image generation via Image Playground, will be subject to daily limits. Those limits can be raised for users on most iCloud+ plans. Apple has not published a complete list of affected features, the exact quota levels, or the distinctions between non‑subscribers and the various paid tiers.
Faster syncing for everyday use: Siri, Photos, and more
Siri conversations, accessible in the Siri app, are now synchronized via iCloud: you can access past exchanges, start new threads, pin conversations, and continue a dialogue across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS.
Photos gets several iCloud-related tweaks: a “Prioritize Syncing” toggle forces all photos to upload to iCloud for 24 hours regardless of battery status; devices also begin uploads to iCloud Photos more quickly to make images available across your devices sooner. Shared Albums have been updated to allow Android and Windows users to upload content, and those albums now retain files at full resolution to improve cross‑platform sharing.
Simplified sharing and collaboration via iCloud
iCloud’s collaboration tools are being refined: shared links now display richer previews, users can request access to shared items, and Apple says content on iCloud.com will be more quickly accessible. Creating share links has been made easier and more discoverable.
Journal and Passwords management
The Journal app now shows iCloud sync status for each entry so you can confirm whether a note is synced. In the Passwords app, Apple Intelligence can suggest automatic fixes for weak passwords using iCloud Keychain and Safari; this feature requires an iPhone compatible with Apple Intelligence.
Availability
iOS 27 is available now to developers and public beta testers and is expected to roll out to the public in September alongside Apple’s new iPhone models.
