Superstat, an Australian startup, has raised $3.5M in pre‑seed funding to bring amateur sports analytics into the AI era and establish a presence in Austin, Texas. The round was led by Blackbird and supported by Jarrod Webb (founder of Blinq) and Alex and Chris Naoumidis, co‑founders of Mindset Health. Founded in May 2025 by Cordelia King, Sam Hung and Kai Bloomfield (a former AFL data analyst), Superstat was also selected for Startmate’s Summer 2026 cohort.
Automated match‑video analytics for amateur teams
Superstat’s platform ingests raw match video and automatically converts it into structured data — individual player stats, event timelines and performance trend reports. The startup’s goal is to democratize analytics tools that have traditionally been reserved for elite clubs, extending them to community teams, junior programs and semi‑professional squads.
Early traction and coach‑driven iteration
Co‑founder Cordelia King says Superstat has moved “from an idea to more than 5,000 active users,” with daily product improvements driven by coach feedback. That uptake signals a clear demand for actionable analytics at the amateur level, enabling teams and players to track and improve performance without pro‑level infrastructure.
U.S. expansion and hiring plans
Following the round, the team will relocate to Austin, where Superstat already has customers. The company cites Austin’s tech ecosystem and proximity to talent—particularly from the University of Texas—as key reasons for the move. To scale, Superstat is hiring a founding‑role computer vision engineer and a go‑to‑market lead focused on partnerships and marketing.
Sport diversification and model development
While the product initially focused on basketball, Superstat is developing models for NFL, volleyball, soccer and baseball. The roadmap reflects an ambition to offer the same analytics layer across multiple sports while adapting algorithms to each discipline’s unique dynamics.
