Will iOS 27 Focus on Features for Apple’s Foldable iPhone?

Apple is set to begin development of iOS 27 with a new focus as it prepares its software to support its first foldable iPhone. The upcoming iOS version will prioritize features designed specifically for this innovative book-style foldable device, anticipated to debut in late 2026. Despite this shift, regular iPhone users can still expect new UI innovations on their devices.

With Samsung having led the foldable market for seven years, there’s a growing demand among some Apple enthusiasts for a foldable option that operates on iOS. The impact on U.S. sales remains uncertain, but Apple’s decision seems influenced by the Chinese market’s preference for book-style over flip-style foldables.

The foldable iPhone, expected to launch next year, will feature a 7.8-inch inner display and a 5.5-inch outer screen. It aims to resolve common issues found in foldable phones, offering a less noticeable display crease and a more robust hinge mechanism made with titanium and stainless steel for enhanced durability. This “iPhone Fold” is likely to become Apple’s priciest model, with prices rumored to start at $2,000. Instead of Face ID, it will reportedly use Touch ID integrated into a side button to conserve space, and is expected to include 48MP dual-lens rear cameras.
