Apple confirms iOS 27 for this fall, with three headline features that could reshape daily iPhone use: deeper Spotlight integration into Photos and Mail, an AI-powered automatic proofreader, and a heavily redesigned Siri — branded Siri AI — that understands personal context and on‑screen content.
iOS 27: Spotlight moves into Photos and Mail
One of the biggest changes in iOS 27 affects Photos and Mail, both of which are being reorganized to make search and navigation faster and more intuitive. Spotlight is becoming a first‑class element of Siri and can now be invoked from within Photos and Mail to refine queries, promising more relevant results and smoother browsing of personal content.
An AI‑boosted automatic proofreader
iOS 27 also introduces an “automatic proofreader.” Apple’s traditional spell‑checker is being supplemented by a grammar and style tool powered by artificial intelligence. The goal is to go beyond simple typo detection — offering smarter writing assistance that corrects grammar and suggests clearer phrasings across messages and documents.
Siri AI: a conversational assistant aware of context and screen content
The most ambitious addition is Siri AI, described by Apple as “a much more capable, conversational assistant with an understanding of personal context, broad world knowledge, and awareness of what’s on screen.” Siri AI can answer web questions and pull relevant information from a user’s messages, emails, photos and other personal content.
Apple says Siri AI will include a dedicated app for surfacing cross‑device conversations, expanded Visual Intelligence features, and built‑in writing tools. The company also highlights a redesigned architecture focused on privacy, while leveraging the next generation of Apple Intelligence for improved understanding and system‑wide reasoning.
Developer preview now, public beta later this year
These features are available to developers for testing starting today, with a beta for users planned “later this year.” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior vice president of Software Engineering, framed the ambition: with up‑to‑date knowledge, screen awareness and personal context understanding, Siri AI will enable more natural interactions across apps.
Toward a more proactive, personalized iPhone
By combining integrated search, advanced writing assistance and a context‑aware voice assistant, iOS 27 is positioning the iPhone to be more proactive and personalized. Implementation details and privacy boundaries will become clearer when the public beta rolls out this fall.
