Apple Pay launched in the Philippines today, allowing iPhone and Apple Watch owners to add supported debit and credit cards to the Wallet app for contactless payments.
Apple Pay support and banks
Cards can be added by opening the Wallet app and tapping the “+” button. According to Reddit users, supported banks include UnionBank, GoTyme, Metrobank and Chinabank. Cards are verified using SMS or a phone call.
Once an eligible card is added to the Wallet app, it can be used at retail locations that support Apple Pay. Reddit users have reported adding their cards to Apple Wallet and making Apple Pay purchases at stores such as Starbucks and 7-Eleven.
Apple’s site listing supported banks has not yet been updated to include the Philippines, but Apple should soon publish a full list of participating banks.
