5 Samsung Galaxy Phones That Lose Software Support in 2029

Samsung announced seven years of software updates with the Galaxy S24 release in January 2024, but several older and lower-end models still face earlier end-of-life dates — including a set of Samsung Galaxy phones that will stop receiving updates in 2029.

Samsung Galaxy update policy and timelines

Samsung’s seven-year guarantee, introduced with the Galaxy S24, initially applied to the Galaxy S- and Z-series. The company later extended longer support to lower-end A-series phones as well, but only for six years rather than seven. Devices released before the January 2024 announcement generally remain on Samsung’s previous policy of four years of OS updates and five years of security updates.

Because of that policy change, a phone’s expected lifespan now depends on its release date. For example, the Galaxy S24’s seven years of updates run through 2031, while the Galaxy S23, released in 2023 before the new policy, will stop being supported in 2028. Users with S-series models from 2024 onward therefore have notably longer official software support windows.

Which Samsung Galaxy phones end support in 2029

Although some newer S- and Z-series handsets have extended support, several of Samsung’s A-series and rugged smartphones are slated to stop receiving updates in 2029. The source compiled a list of Samsung phones that have an end-of-life date in 2029 to give owners time to consider trading in their device for a newer model or switching brands.
