Samsung Display is on the brink of unveiling a new desktop OLED panel that aligns with the latest DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). This certification is tailored for cutting-edge OLED panels capable of achieving peak brightness levels of up to 1,400 nits, while maintaining exceptionally low black levels at 0.0005 nits. Additionally, VESA has increased the requirement for sustained full-screen brightness to 700 nits, marking a significant enhancement from the previous DisplayHDR True Black 1000 certification.
The certification process under DisplayHDR True Black 1400 is more stringent, incorporating an improved testing framework from DisplayHDR CTS 1.2, which ensures higher integrity in performance metrics and prevents manufacturers from manipulating results.
The first products meeting this new standard are set to debut at the Bilibili World 2026 event in Shanghai, scheduled from July 10 to July 12, 2026. Lenovo’s Yoga Pro 16 is poised to be the inaugural notebook to achieve this certification, potentially featuring an OLED panel from Samsung Display.
