iOS 27 Beta 5: What’s New in Apple’s Latest Beta

With just over a month until the launch of iOS 27, Apple has issued the fifth beta, which updates app icons, tweaks Liquid Glass, and adds a number of smaller refinements across the system.

iOS 27: App icons and Liquid Glass

The beta introduces updated Liquid Glass icons for Safari, Siri, Settings, Remote, App Store, and Preview. Some of those icons have been fully redesigned, while others now include more visual detail. Separately, the clearest Liquid Glass setting is clearer than it was in the prior beta.

Siri AI voice customization

Siri AI voice customization has been expanded: Pace and Expressivity can now be adjusted for all seven American voices and the four British voices. Voice customization runs on-device, so the feature is limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, or iPhone Air.

Contacts, Wallet and splash screens

If a contact you create includes a company, that company name now appears under the contact name in the contact list and in search results. The Apple Wallet Create a Pass feature is now available outside the U.S. Apple has also added splash screens to the Photos, Wallet, and Music apps that explain what’s new in iOS 27.

Search, Ask and apps in Search

Apple made minor animation changes when bringing up Search or Ask: the suggestions interface now appears as the search bar does rather than popping up slightly afterward. The search results interface also now includes a “Search the Web” option at the bottom that was not there before. You can now decide whether Search shows app results and how many: off, four apps, or eight apps. There is also a toggle to show app shortcuts.

Control Center, connectivity and 5G+

When connected to Wi‑Fi, Control Center no longer shows information about the cellular connection. Separately, 5G+ is now available in Spain.

System and app refinements

In Settings > General > About, the Software Updates section now shows when the last update was installed. The Clock app uses a thicker font for the Alarms and Timers section. Mail includes a toggle for the Personalize Smart Replies feature; it is off by default and can be enabled in Mail settings. The Battery section of Settings will now notify you if a poor cellular connection is causing battery drain.
