A new report suggests Samsung is developing humanoid robots in-house, separate from its earlier investments in South Korea’s Rainbow Robotics.
The company previously invested hundreds of millions of dollars in Rainbow Robotics and is the firm’s largest shareholder. That external stake comes in addition to the newly reported internal work on humanoid robots.
Humanoid robots: Samsung’s manufacturing advantage
The report adds that the robot Samsung has developed reportedly outperforms major domestic rivals, a result the company can achieve by drawing on its extensive hardware manufacturing capabilities to streamline development and production.
Samsung is also believed to be developing proprietary actuators for these robots, based on motor technologies originally developed for its home appliances. Those actuators serve as joints for the machines, allowing for articulation and controlled movement.
